About the historic hike: The rail trail in Carolinian Canada is one of Canada's best, following the Lynn River to Lake Erie, We will hike the trail to Dover approximately 3 1/2 - 4 km per hour, flat easy terrain. The Historic talk by Bob Rennie will begin at noon once we are at the parking lot on Prospect St. in Dover and we will hike for an hour throughout the town approximately 3 km hearing Dover's history. Originally part of the Grand Trunk Railway line, the rail line was still very much operational when Bob lived there (until his 20s). It became the former CNR rail line which was established along the pioneer river trail in 1873 as the Lake Huron and Port Dover Railway. The rail line was abandoned in 1988.

Bob, guest of this hike, will share Dover's early "discovery" by French priests in 1669 previously inhabited by Algonquins and Neutrals. - Dover's founding by his ancestor and early development of Dover Mills. - War of 1812 Brock's attack on Detroit out of Dover, and the burning/redevelopment as Port Dover. - Rum running days in the prohibition era. - The importance of the largest fresh water fishing fleet in the world.

We will leave Kitchener and its suburbs behind, but unfortunately, we will have to walk on roads for the first half of the hike. However, we will then be rewarded as we get to cross two very nice forests, the Dryden Tract and the Sudden Tract, before making our way to the quaint village of Glen Morris.

About this series of hikes: About this series of hikes: Join Didier, Leanne and Kamil for an end-to-end hike of the Grand Valley Trail! This series of hikes covers the entirety of the Grand Valley Trail, from the village of Belwood to the estuary of the Grand in Port Maitland. The hikes will be spread over 6 weekends in the Spring, early Summer, and Fall of 2026. Feel free to join for any or all of these hikes. The hikes will be approximately 16 to 24 kms in length, and will allow time for socializing, photography and general good fellowship. If this is something you want to do, we can also assist you in maintaining a log of your walks in order to receive your end-to-end badges and chevrons. The hikes are generally not very difficult, as the terrain is mostly flat; only their length may make it challenging for some hikers. Hikes are limited to 20 participants.

Join Didier and Joanna on another End-to-End (E2E) trek, this one through the Iroquoia section of the Bruce Trail. This is a series of 9 hikes, to complete ~ 122 km of this section, running from Grimsby to Milton along the Niagara Escarpment. Come and hike with us, earn a badge or just have fun and, socialize. The Iroquoia section has lots to offer: beautiful waterfalls, few wineries, spectacular views specially passing near Hamilton, Mount Nemo and Kelso, and a varied terrain.
For those whose goal is to earn a badge we will create a log. Badge cost is 10$ for BTC members or 15 for non-members. Note, you need to hike the full length of Iroquoia section to earn a badge, but if you are not able to join us on one of the hikes, you can re-do the hike on your own.

About hike: This hike will cover the GVT from km 57.0 to km 38.6 in the Towpath section. In the first part of the hike, we will stay close to the river and pass by a couple of former locks. After reaching the hamlet of York, we will be mostly following Hwy 54. If it is open, we will stop for snacks at Ruthven Park National Historic Site before reaching Cayuga a short while later.
