Trails on Thursdays: Homer Watson Loop - 5 km

About hike: We will walk on the Grand Valley trails through the Doon Regional Forest (past Doon Presbitarian Cemetery, the final resting place of Homer Watson) and on the Walter Bean trail along the Grand River beside the Water Treatment plant. Across the Grand we will peek at the Pioneer Tower on the other side of the river, walk beside the Doon Mills ruins and by the Homer Watson Gallery (the house Homer Watson lived in). Then along the Schneider Creek we complete our stroll. No washroom facilities, sorry.

About the leader: Eva enjoys connecting with the community through hiking and has participated in the Guelph Walking Pilgrimage for many years. She plans to walk the Camino one day. With GVTA, Eva leads short urban hikes (around 5 km) in the region on weekdays, explore local natural areas and interact with other nature lovers.

Pace and duration: Moderate, 3 - 4 km/hr. About 1.5 hours.
Hike level: Easy (1) with some hills. The path is a mix of concrete, stone-dust, and woodchips. Hiking shoes are recommended if the weather is wet. 

Parking and departure: Meet at 9:50 am at Marguerite Ormston Trailway parkign lot, 2200 Homer Watson Blvd, Kitchener, ON N2P 1A5 (43.394232, -80.437217). 

Directions: Please use your favourite GPS app to obtain directions.
 
What to wear and bring: Pack some water and munchies and raingear.
Comfortable shoes recommended. Parts of the path are narrow; long pants recommended. Check the weather before heading out and dress according to conditions.

Sorry, no dogs on GVTA hikes with the exception of certified service dogs.
