Bite Sized Belwood Series:  The Belwood Section is the northernmost stretch of the Grand Valley Trail. The section includes scenic walks through Elora Gorge as well as gentle rambles along the Elora Cataract Rail Trail. The Bite Sized Belwood series completes this section of the GVTA with five shorter (4-8 km) hikes.

About this hike: his section of the trail includes both sections of wooded trail hugging the Grand River as well as stretches of road walking.

About the leader: Laura MacGregor is a certified hike leader who enjoys walks of all distances. She’s completed numerous long-distance hikes in Canada and Europe and is excited about meeting fellow hikers and exploring the trail in her own backyard.

Length: 8.6 km
Category:  Linear hike, car shuttle involved.
Pace and duration: Moderate, 3.5 - 4 km/hr. 
Hike level: Intermediate (2). A combination of rail trail, partially paved road, and mostly dirt trails through the forest, roots, mixed hilly and flat terrain, with a few steep long inclines. Possible thick mud, wet conditions in fall.

Parking and departure: Meet at 8:50 am, roadside parking along Queen St.Queen St. (43.791176,-80.322379). After short introduction and instructions, at 9 am sharp, we will car shuttle to the start of the hike, 2nd Line small parking lot (where the Grand Valley Trail & Elora Cataract Trail crosses second line), 43.738622,-80.363598).

Directions: Please use your favourite GPS app to obtain directions.
 
What to wear and bring: This is a late summer to early fall hike; please layer accordingly. Wear good hiking shoes/boots and socks. Pack and use sunscreen and insect repellent. Some hikers may prefer to use hiking poles. Carry adequate water and snacks. Hikes proceed rain or shine. 

Sorry, no dogs on GVTA hikes with the exception of certified service dogs.
