2022 Bird Photo Contest Rules

The special bird photo contest is open only to members. GVTA members are invited to submit their best photos between January 5 and January 19.  

 

Contest winners and judges

Three finalists will be selected from each category by the following judges:

Bird experts Catherine Hale and Peter Rasberry, Wild Birds Unlimited - Kitchener
Environmental expert Gavan Watson, PhD, Memorial University of Newfoundland
Photography expert Brian Dernesch, KW Telescope

Members will then vote from the judges’ finalists. .

 

Contest rules

  • Photos submitted have to be taken between July 19, 2021 and January 19, 2022.
  • Photos are to be taken and submitted in high resolution format.
  • By submitting a photo, you accept that it will become part of the GVTA archives and may be used for promotional purposes.   
  • You can submit one photo for each of the two categories:
    Category 1 - On the Trail: Photo depicting a bird taken on the Grand Valley Trail. Photo does not need to be taken at a GVTA hike/activity.
    Category 2 – Off the Trail: Photo depicting a bird taken off the Grand Valley Trail. Photo does not need to be taken at a GVTA hike/activity.
  • ​Photo must be received on or before January 19.
  • By submitting photographs, you are confirming that
    -  You are the sole owner of copyright on this photograph.
    -  You grant the GVTA the nonexclusive right to use the photo in any way it sees fit.
    -  You have obtained the relevant rights from any participants who have modeled or posed in
       the photo.

How to submit photos

Email your photo/s to [email protected] and indicate if the photo was taken on or off the Grand Valley Trail, and the date the photo was taken.
 

Winning prizes

Winners will be announced at a virtual event on February 2 and receive a $50 gift card redeemable at the winner’s choice of Henry’s, MEC or Shutterfly.

 

Please note: for the contest to run, a minimum number of entries is required. Please encourage GVTA members to participate!
