Monday, September 5, 2011. Mitchell. Level 1: Moderate ~ 10 km

. Depart 10:00 a.m. In Mitchell, 20 km west of Stratford on hwy 8, turn right at traffic lights on St. George Street, continue to Frances Street. Turn left and park at end of street. Mitchell offers a lovely walk along the nature trail beside Thames River crossing Whirl Creek. Bring a lunch, water and seasonal protection.

. Depart 7:15 p.m. from the trailhead southeast of Speed River Bridge on Victoria Road, south of Conservation Road and north of Woodlawn Road. Bring bug repellent, snack and water. No dogs please.
Friday, September 9th to Sunday, 11, 2011. Flower Pot Island and other Treasures at the "Tip o' the Bruce" Tobermory. Level 1: Slow

. The wind down of summer on the peninsula is a great time to explore this unique area. We will spend a day walking on Flower Pot Island there is a charge of about $35.00 for the Parks Canada fee and the glass bottom ferry. We will walk the Burnt Point loop with its great views of Georgian Bay and its islands. Our hikes will be shorter and slower than regular hikes, approx. 10km each day. The area is very scenic, bring your camera. We stay and have our meals at a hotel in Tobermory overlooking Little Tub Harbour. For more information please visit Greg's website or call Greg.
Saturday, September 10, 2011. Mount Nemo. Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 15.3 km

. Depart 9:00 a.m. km 82.1 [approx. lat/long = 43.387907,-79.853454] BT Map 10, ed 26. This Bruce Trail walk is part of the Iroquoia section & takes us to the top of the Niagara Escarpment at Mount Nemo, a shore feature, formed 450 million years ago by a warm tropical sea and since etched by glacial and fluvial episodes. Mount Nemo provides some spectacular lookouts varying from 30 m in the north to 10 m high at the south no dropouts. Directions: From Hwy 401 take exit 312, go south through Campbellville on Reg. Rd 1/Guelph Line (Main St in Campbellville) for about 16.6 km to where the trail meets Guelph Line. The hike includes road walking before and after Mt. Nemo. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and dropouts. Google Maps.

Saturday, September 10, 2011. Mount Nemo Loop Hike. Level 2: Moderate ~ 10 km

. Depart 10:00 a.m. from Walkers Line and No. 2 Sideroad (km 91.5 BTA map 10). Take Guelph Line exit from Highway 401 south to Britannia Road. Turn east (left) on Britannia to Walkers Line. Turn south (right) on Walkers Line to No. 2 Sideroad. We will do a loop hike around scenic Mount Nemo. Bring your cameras.
Sunday, September 11, 2011 – Bruce Trail, Blue Mountain or Beaver Valley Area.
Level 2/3: Moderate ~ 10 and 20 km
NOTE: This event is now filled (posted 2011AUG30). Pre-registration Necessary for Bus Reservation.

and Deni. This is a new initiative by the GVTA to introduce bus hikes to its membership. The intent is to have a bus pick-up point in Kitchener and another in Guelph to pick-up members of the Guelph Hiking Trail Club. GVTA also offers this outing to other bordering trail clubs. The trip will be advertised for members in the Thames, Avon, GVTA and Guelph hiking associations. Leaders will organize a 10 kilometre as well as a 20 kilometre walk, followed by a pub outing. Location will be in the vicinity of the Bruce Trail’s Blue Mountain/Beaver Valley regions. Cost, hike location and pick-up points are to be determined. . Depart 10:00 a.m. Roadside Parking Taylor Road near Warner Road (km 16.2, map 2, ed 26). Let's enjoy great hiking on the Bruce Trail Niagara Section starting at Queenston Heights where the Bruce Trail cairn marks the beginning of the 885km Bruce Trail heading north to Tobermory. Bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water (2 litres recommended) as hiking in September can still be warm. No smoking, cell phones off and no dogs please.
Sunday, September 18, 2011. Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. Level 2: Moderate ~ 12 km

. Depart 10:00 a.m. from the Mono Community Center: 754483 2nd Line (County Road 8). Take Hwy 401 to Hwy10 and continue north to County Road 8 (Camilla). Turn right (east) and follow CR 8 for approx. 8 km to Mono Community Center (on right). We will do a loop hike through scenic Mono Hills Provincial Park at the start of the fall season with the leaves beginning to change. Bring a camera since there will be photo ops with several lookouts and points of interest. Pub stop after hike.

. Depart 2:15 p.m. from the St. Ignatius Center following the signs to the workshop parking lot. Enjoy a fall stroll through the woods and by the fields at St. Ignatius Loyola. Bring water and repellant.
Sunday, September 25, 2011 – Spcial Event: Minds in Motion KW Walking Classic
Calling for GVTA members to join the “The Grand Valley Hikers” for the Minds in Motion KW Walking Classic. Register for the Half-Marathon (21km), the 10 km or the 5 km at www.kwwalkingclassic.com/registration, and join The Grand Valley Hikers at kwwalkingclassic.com/teams/registration/join. Jane K. is registered as Team Leader. You can receive a medal, a long-sleeved shirt, a tote bag, and a chance to win a prize! Registration fees ($35, $45, $70) go to improving the lives of those in our community who experience mental health issues. You may opt to raise funds rather than pay the registration fee.
