Hikes and other outdoor activities listed below represent some of the activities published in our newsletter, Trail Markings. If you are interested in hiking, and/or other volunteer opportunities, you are encouraged to join GVTA. If you join, you receive the complete listing of hikes and other outdoor activities and more. HikerSunday, October 3, 2010 – Bruce Trail, Iroquoia. Level 2/3. 3 km/h. Hilly, rocky terrain, 16.1 km
Leaders: Jamie Certified Hiker Leader and Greg & Jeanette Certified Hiker Leader. BT Maps 10/11, ed. 25. Meet before 9:00 am for a 9:00 am departure in the parking lot at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area parking off Appleby Line [43.472003,-79.911787], map 11. We walk north through Crawford Lake C.A., down into, along & back up the Nassawgaweya Canyon onto part of the Milton Outlier before walking the Rattlesnake Point Access Trail to the parking lot. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and no dropouts. Directions from Hwy 401 East: Take Exit 312 at Campbellville, left at Reid Sideroad (signs for Reid Sideroad/Guelph Line/Campbellville), left at Main St North/Guelph Line, turn right (before the Mohawk Racetrack) at 5 Sideroad/Reg. Rd 9 (also known as Campbellville Rd.) & follow it for about 3.5 km, right at Appleby Line for about 5.5 km to the entrance of Rattlesnake Point C.A. Google Maps directions.

Leader: Cathy Certified Hiker Leader johnstone_cathy@hotmail.com. Depart 9:00 am, there is roadside parking on Concession 24 at the Dodd’s Hill Side Trail, km 144.1 map 34 [approximately 44.761626,-80.925280].

Leader: Cathy Certified Hiker Leader johnstone_cathy@hotmail.com. Depart 9:00 am, there is roadside parking on Gleason Lake Rd [approximately 44.776755,-81.039419] where the Curly Harnden Side Trail meets with the Len Holley Side Trail map 35.

CanoeThursday, October 14, 2010 – Waterloo Wellington Canoe Club - 25th Anniversary Speaker Series
At 7 p.m. Kevin Callan, a Canadian author, speaker, and canoe enthusiast, will speak at Resurrection High School Room 101, 455 University Avenue West, Kitchener. He is the author of eleven books, including the best selling The Happy Camper and a series of paddling guides. On a regular basis he presents across North America and has been a key speaker at all the major canoe events for over 20 years. Callan is also a frequent guest on radio and television, field editor for Explore, and writes on a regular basis for ON Nature, Kanawa and Canoeroots Magazine. He is a winner of three National Magazine Awards [3] and four film awards’ including “best of” in the prestigious Waterwalker Film Festival. For the last 17 years he has taught Environmental Issues and Sciences at Sir Sanford Fleming College and lives in Peterborough, the birthplace of the modern day canoe.

Leaders: Jamie Certified Hiker Leader and Greg & Jeanette Certified Hiker Leader BT Maps 11, ed. 25. Meet before 9:00 am for a 9:00 am departure in the parking lot at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area parking off Appleby Line [43.472003,-79.911787], map 11. Today we walk south through part of Hilton Falls C.A., before mounting the Milton Outlier passing through the Kelso C.A. on to Rattlesnake Point Access Trail along the edge of Nassawgaweya Canyon to the parking lot. Hiking boots are a must and trekking poles are recommended. No dogs and no dropouts. Directions from Hwy 401 East: Take Exit 312 at Campbellville, left at Reid Sideroad (signs for Reid Sideroad/Guelph Line/Campbellville), left at Main St North/Guelph Line, turn right (before the Mohawk Racetrack) at 5 Sideroad/Reg Rd 9 (also known as Campbellville Rd) & follow it for about 3.5 km, right at Appleby Line for about 5.5 km to the entrance of Rattlesnake Point C.A.
