Hikes and other outdoor activities listed below represent some of the activities published in our newsletter, Trail Markings. If you are interested in hiking, and/or other volunteer opportunities, you are encouraged to join GVTA. If you join, you receive the complete listing of hikes and other outdoor activities and more. Saturday, November 5, 2011. Breakfast First then Hike the Floradale Dam Loop. Level 1: Moderate ~ 6 km

. Meet 8:30 a.m. Bonnie Lou’s Cafe’ our favourite place for breakfast in Floradale, NW of Elmira. After breakfast we head out for our Autumn Hike around the dam. Often we are close to the Floradale Reservoir or we walk through nearby pine forests and cross the dam. The walk takes around two hours as we keep our eyes open for fall wildflowers. This is suitable for beginners and intermediate hikers. Bring water.
Sunday, November 6, 2011. Toronto's Beach Boardwalk. Level 1: Moderate - 10 km

. Depart 9:30a.m. Beaches’ Branch Toronto Public Library at Queen St. East and Lee Ave. in the Beach District of Toronto. If taking the streetcar it is on the 501 line. We start with a walk through Kew Beach Park and then walk the Boardwalk end to end. Easy walking with bits of history along the way from someone brought up - not all that well - in the Beach. Lots of dropouts along the way. You will learn the difference between "The Beach" and "The Beaches"
Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Grand Valley Trail: "Hounds goin' Hiking" Part 2. Level 2: Moderate ~ 8.2 km

. Depart 10:00 a.m. Corner of River Edge Drive and Letson Drive, in car park, just 100 yards east of the covered bridge, West Montrose, ON. A great hike for well behaved dogs, those willing to be constantly on a leash throughout the outing. All this beside a heritage river. We make our way through undulating, scenic terrain toward the last covered bridge in Ontario. Who could ask for anything more! Bring a lunch, water, a hiking pole and, some dog food if you are accompanied by your best 'friend'.
No dog? Not to worry. Just come and enjoy the scenery, the companionship and the bracing air. A grand walk beside the Grand River!
Thursday, November 10, 2011. Thursdays on the Bruce. Hike 5 of 6. Level 2: Moderate ~ 17.6 km

. Depart 9:00 a.m Roadside Parking, Woolverton Road just north of Ridge Road West (km 4.6, map 5, ed 26). Bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water (2 litres recommended). Notice the earlier start time as it will be getting dark earlier. Remember gloves and hats as it will also be cool now. No smoking, cell phones off and no dogs please.
Sunday, November 13, 2011. Best Dam Tour- Guelph Lake Nature Centre. Level 1: Leisurely ~ 2 hours
NOTE: Jane is unable to go now but the tour will still be on [posted 2011 November 07 Monday]. Pre-registration before October 7th necessary. Leader: Jane
. Meet 2:00 p.m. at the Guelph Lake Nature Centre. The centre is North East of the City of Guelph off Victoria Rd, on Conservation Drive. Join us for a tour of the Guelph Lake Dam, and learn about flood control, the production of hydro electric power, and how the dam helps to maintain water levels in the Grand River watershed. Cost is $5 per person to be paid on the day. Call GRCA at 519-836-7860 to pre-register. GVTA has reservations for 10 people. Thursday, November 17, 2011. Stanley Park Community Trails. Loop. Level 1: Moderate ~ 12 km
Leader: Pauline
. Depart 10:00 a.m. Stanley Park Mall, 1005 Ottawa St N, Kitchener. Park at the far end near Zellers, away from the stores. This loop hike links various community trails in Kitchener, and also goes through Natchez Woods. There is some hilly, uneven terrain through the woods. We may stop for refreshments half way through the hike (Tim's), or you may bring your lunch (plus water and snacks).
Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Special Event: GVTA Social & Story Telling Evening from 6:45 – 9:00 p.m.
Leader: Jane
. Meeting 6:45 p.m. in the upstairs Community Room at the Zehrs grocery store, Laurentian Plaza, Ottawa Road, just off Homer Watson Blvd, Kitchener. Come spend an evening socializing. We will share hiking stories in a story telling format or enjoy listening. Light refreshments will be available.
