Hikes and other outdoor activities listed below represent some of the activities published in our newsletter, Trail Markings. If you are interested in hiking, and/or other volunteer opportunities, you are encouraged to join GVTA. If you join, you receive the complete listing of hikes and other outdoor activities and more. HikerSaturday, May 22, 2010 – Shades Mills Loop Hike. Level 2: Moderate ~ 10km
Leaders: Sue Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 10:00 a.m. Shades Mills Conservation Area, 450 Avenue Road, Cambridge. This is a great hiking area among hardwood forests and the Grand River vicinity. Admission charge. Bring sun-block, water and lunch.

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesSaturday, May 22, 2010 – Beaver Valley Hike 6 of 8. Level 2: Moderate ~ 15.5 km
Leader: Cathy Certified Hiker Leader. Departing at 9:00 a.m. from Side Road 13A, map 27, km 84.7. There will be something for everyone during this weekend of hiking. We will traverse boulder strewn talus, open farmland, and hardwood forests. There will be lots of hills and valleys, and panoramic views of Beaver Valley, Old Baldy and Kimberley Rock.

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesSunday, May 23, 2010 – Beaver Valley Hike 7 of 8. Level 2: Moderate ~ 14.5 km
Leader: Cathy Certified Hiker Leader. Departing at 9:00 a.m. from the junction of Old Mail Rd and 3rd Line, map 28, km 99.2 Today’s hike continues with lots of hills, crevices and interesting rock formations.

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesMonday, May 24, 2010 – Beaver Valley Hike 8 of 8. Level 2: Moderate ~ 13.9 km
Leader: Cathy Certified Hiker Leader. Departing at 9:00 am from Regional Rd 12 in Blantyre, map 28, km 113.1 (there is very limited parking here: do not block the farmer’s laneway). Today we skirt deep crevices and briefly enter one of them. We will keep an eye out for Hart’s Tongue and Walking Ferns. Near the end of the hike we will cross a creek at Anthea’s Waterfall named in memory of Dr. Tom East’s daughter > see watefall pictures.

HikerMonday, May 24, 2010 – Stratford Area. Level 2: Leisurely ~ 10 km
Leader: Sue Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 10:00 a.m at the park on Richard Monette Way, close to Festival Theatre. A great way to spend Victoria Day with a walk around Lake Victoria and in the woods of T.J. Dolan Natural Area. Lunch at York Street Kitchen suggested following the hike.

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesThursday, May 27, 2010 – Rideau Trail Hike 1 of 5. Level 3: Moderate ~ 23.0 km
Leaders: Jim Certified Hiker Leader and Charles Certified Hiker Leader. Cataraqui Bay Marshland Area to Orser Road. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Orser Road west of Stagecoach Road where the Rideau Trail joins Orser Road on the south side of the road. This point is at km 23.0 where the K & P Rail Trail intersects with Orser Road. Please consider joining us for what we hope will be a series of hikes to finish the entire Rideau in three years. > Rideau Trail Association

End to End Hike SeriesHikerFriday, May 28, 2010 – Rideau Trail Hike 2 of 5. Level 3: Moderate ~ 18.6 km
Leaders: Jim Certified Hiker Leader and Charles Certified Hiker Leader. Orser Road to Beach Parking Lot at Gould Lake. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the entrance to the Gould Lake Conservation Area on Gould Lake Road. We will then park some of the cars within the conservation area at the beach parking lot. HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesSaturday, May 29, 2010 – Rideau Trail Hike 3 of 5. Level 3: Moderate ~ 22.4 km
Leaders: Jim Certified Hiker Leader and Charles Certified Hiker Leader. Gould Lake to Perth Road # 10. Meet at 9:00 a.m. on Perth Road#10 where the trail meets the road approximately one kilometre north of Hidden Valley Road. This point is on County Road#10 between the communities of Buck Lake to the north and Raymonds’ Corners to the south. The meeting point is at kilometre 64 in the Rideau Trail Guidebook, Map#4. Today we cross the Gould Lake Conservation Area and begin to cross the spectacular Frontenac Provincial Park. Today’s hike is considered one of the most glorious hikes in Eastern Ontario. The spectacular scenery will require us to stop, contemplate and possibly photograph the natural wonders of this magnificent park. > Rideau Trail Association

End to End Hike SeriesHikerSaturday, May 29, 2010 – Oak Ridges Trail E2E Hike 3 of 10. Level 3: Moderate ~ 25.6 km
Leaders: Arthur Certified Hiker Leader and Georgia Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Woodbine Road and Van Valley Drive, north of the Vandorf Sideroad. The Oak Ridges Trail Association wesbite.

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesSunday, May 30, 2010 – Oak Ridges Trail E2E Hike 4 of 10. Level 3: Moderate ~ 18.7 km
Leaders: Arthur Certified Hiker Leader and Georgia Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 8:30 a.m at Aurora Road and 9th Line, west of Hwy 48. The Oak Ridges Trail Association wesbite.

End to End Hike SeriesHikerSunday, May 30, 2010 – Rideau Trail Hike 4 of 5. Level 3: Moderate ~ 21.2 km
Leaders: Jim Certified Hiker Leader and Charles Certified Hiker Leader. Perth Road # 10 to Skycroft Access Trail Parking. Meet at 9:00 a.m at the Skycroft Access Trail on the Opinicon Road at the westerly end of Lake Opinicon. This point is to the east of the community of Lake Opinicon (the closest settlement) and to the west of the community of Chaffey’s Lock. The natural beauty of this hike just keeps on happening. Come with us and enjoy the natural wonders of this area. > Rideau Trail Association

HikerEnd to End Hike SeriesMonday, May 31, 2010 – Rideau Trail Hike 5 of 5. Level 3: Moderate ~ 22.8 km
Leaders: Jim Certified Hiker Leader and Charles Certified Hiker Leader. Skycroft Access Trail Parking Lot to Centreville/ 9th Concession Road (Westport) Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of the Centreville Road and the 9th. Concession Road southwest of the Village of Westport. This point is on the Rideau Trail Guidebook, Map#6. Today we finish this series of hikes near the Village of Westport. We will allow some time for refreshments before everybody leaves after a completely satisfying five days of hiking. > Rideau Trail Association
