Hikes and other outdoor activities listed below represent some of the activities published in our newsletter, Trail Markings. If you are interested in hiking, and/or other volunteer opportunities, you are encouraged to join GVTA. If you join, you receive the complete listing of hikes and other outdoor activities and more. A membership application form is available for download via the Membership web page. We welcome new members so please join us and help to maintain the Grand Valley Trail, a community resource.   • Topics: Hike Leader Responsibilities, Risk Management, Creating the Ideal Hike, and Group Management. There will be both classroom and outdoor instruction.

HikerSunday, March 25, 2012 – Lynn Valley Trail. Level 2: Moderate. ~ 22 km
Leader(s): Greg Certified Hiker Leader and Jeanette Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park in Simcoe. Take Hwy 24 south to Simcoe, continue south on Hwy 24/Northfolk St through Simcoe. Continue on Norfolk St., past Victoria Street to Woodhouse St. There is a small sign for Memorial Park, turn left, east, one block then right, south, into Memorial Park (Google Maps 42.828890,-80.299667 - park is near the end of Woodhouse St & Owen St). This rail trail is one of Canada's best and runs from Simcoe to Port Dover beside the Lynn River. The trail is wide, flat with a good surface and for the most part protected by trees. We will search for signs of spring along the way to Port Dover for lunch at Tim Horton's and then retrace our steps to Simcoe. New to hiking? We will help you. No dogs, no dropouts & no smoking. HikerThursday, March 29, 2012 – “Mount Trashmore" Walk. Level 1: Moderate ~ 9- 10 km
Leader: Jamie Certified Hiker Leader Depart 9:00 a.m. from the south east corner of the parking lot at the Canadian Tire store, 1400 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener (intersection of Ottawa St S & Fischer-Hallman Rd at the Sunrise Shopping Centre) [43.415939,-80.512689]. Join Jan and me on this urban loop walk along a combination of community trails & some sidewalks. At Mount Trashmore (McLennan Park) we climb "the hill" (optional), check out the "cityscape" & continue east to negotiate the Homer Watson roundabout & "refuel" at Tim Horton's before returning to the cars via a different trail.
