Hikes and other outdoor activities listed below represent some of the activities published in our newsletter, Trail Markings. If you are interested in hiking, and/or other volunteer opportunities, you are encouraged to join GVTA. If you join, you receive the complete listing of hikes and other outdoor activities and more. A membership application form is available for download via the Membership web page. We welcome new members so please join us and help to maintain the Grand Valley Trail, a community resource. HikerThursday, December 3, 2009. Waterdown Wetlands, & Old Waterdown. Level 1: Leisurely ~ 8 km
Leader: Connie Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James United Church parking lot on Parkside Drive between Main and Mill Street in Waterdown. We will do a There-and -Back hike along the Waterdown Wetlands Trail to Joe Sam Park, then walk through the older part of Waterdown to my home for a soup/stew lunch and then return to the cars. Icers may be necessary.

HikerFriday, December 4, 2009. Snyder's Flats Bloomingdale. Level 2: Moderate ~ 6 km
Leader: Jane. Meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Bloomingdale Community Centre, 1031 Snider’s/Snyder’s Flats Road parking lot (km 54.1 on GVTA Map 11) for a 10 a.m. start. Part of the Grand Valley trails this loop trail with views of the Grand River, is generally flat with some slopes.

HikerSaturday, December 12, 2009. Royal Recreation Speed River & East Ignatius College Trails. Level 2: Moderate ~ 2 hours
Leader: Susan Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 2:00 p.m. in the Golden Griddle parking lot, off Woodlawn Road (hwy 7) at northeast corner of Woolwich Street intersection. Part of the Grand Valley trails this loop trail with views of the Grand River, is generally flat with some slopes.

HikerThursday, December 17, 2009. Glen Abbey Trails Loop Hike. Level 1: Leisurely ~ 10 km
Leaders: Connie Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 10:00 am. at the back of Sobey’s (near the TD Canada Trust) on the Southeast corner of Upper Middle Rd. and Third Line in Oakville. We will complete a circular hike of the trails of Glen Abbey. Bring a snack. A lunch of soup and rolls to be served after the hike at Anne’s house, please call if you are planning to come for lunch.

HikerSaturday, December 19, 2009. Preservation Park. Level 2: Moderate ~ 2 hours
Leader: Susan Certified Hiker Leader. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the parking lot by the splash pad off Kortwright Road, east of the Hanlon Prkwy, hwy 6, before Edinburgh Road South intersection. Come explore nature amidst the busy city in this woodland park. Worth note in the event of a great deal of snow, we might try the alternative to hiking boots with snowshoes. This area requires wearing appropriate footwear, hiking boots, for safe hiking along the boardwalk.

HikerSaturday, December 26, 2009. Snyder's Flats, Bloomingdale Loop Hike. Level 1: Leisurely ~ 4 or 8 km
Leader: Janice Certified Hiker Leader. Part of the trail has been rerouted so we hike closer to the Grand River. A great winter hike with the option of doing either 4 or 8 km during this loop hike.
